Hardware First, Software Later: Our Two-Phase Payment Model
For BMW tuning you pay only hardware and a 5 € deposit today. The software is due once your file is ready. Here is how the model works.

Ordering a tune online usually means trusting in advance: you pay for a file that does not exist yet and hope it arrives and fits. For BMW tuning we turn this around. Today you only pay for what you receive right away (the hardware), plus a small deposit of 5 €. You pay for the actual software calibration once your file is ready. Here we explain how the model works, why we do it this way and what it means for you.
Why two phases?
With BMW tuning, you flash yourself. You order online, read the original software with a flasher tool, upload it to your customer portal, and we create your tuning file on that basis. The car never has to go to a workshop.
This process has a natural break: between the order and the finished file lies your upload. Without the original file we cannot calibrate anything, and whether it was read cleanly we only see once it arrives. It would be unfair to charge in full for a service that still depends on a step on your side. So we split the payment exactly at this point.
Phase 1: hardware and a 5 € deposit
When you order, you pay two things:

- Hardware, if you need it, meaning flasher and cable. If you already own a tool (for example MHD, BM3, Bimmer-Flasher, MS4X, KESS/KTAG or Autotuner), this item disappears.
- A 5 € deposit on the software calibration.
The hardware is a physical product we ship to you, so it is paid immediately. The deposit reserves your order and is later fully credited against the software price. The phase 1 invoice therefore only shows hardware and deposit; the software is billed separately.
Phase 2: software price after completion
As soon as you have uploaded your original file, the calibration starts. In the customer portal you can follow the progress: "Waiting for your file", "File received", "Being tuned", "Tuning file ready". Your file is usually ready within 48 hours; very modern vehicles can take a little longer.
Once the file is ready, you pay the remaining software price, i.e. the total price of the calibration minus the 5 € deposit. The download is then unlocked and you flash the file onto your car yourself. A worked example: if the calibration for your ECU costs 300 €, you pay 5 € plus any hardware when ordering and the remaining 295 € after completion. The configurator shows the exact software price for your car before you order, including the split into "today" and "after tuning".
The process at a glance
In short, an order looks like this:
- Choose vehicle and tune: model, engine, stage and optional extras in the configurator.
- Order and pay: hardware (if needed) plus a 5 € deposit.
- Upload the original file: read it with your flasher and upload it to the customer portal.
- Individual calibration: your software is tuned by hand to suit your car and your wishes.
- Pay the balance, download, flash: after completion you pay the software price minus the deposit and flash the file yourself.
For step 3 you need a Windows 10/11 laptop, a matching OBD cable, a charged car battery and a stable internet connection. The flash guide in the portal has two parts: phase 1 covers reading and uploading, phase 2 covers flashing back the finished file. The second part unlocks as soon as your calibration is ready, matching the second payment phase.
What you gain
The model has three concrete advantages for you:
- No upfront risk on the biggest item. The most expensive part is due only once the work is done.
- Full price transparency. You know the total price beforehand. The deposit is not an extra fee; it is credited.
- Time for your step. You can receive the hardware, read the guide and do the read-out when it suits you, without having paid the full amount yet.
For us, it means the order is binding and we can plan. The 5 € are deliberately low: a sign of commitment, not a hurdle.
Special case: ECUs that need an unlock
Some modern BMW ECUs of the MG1/MD1 generation need a one-time unlock before the first tune. Whether that works over OBD or the ECU has to be sent in depends on the build date: up to 08/2019 the unlock runs directly over OBD; from 09/2019 it needs a bench unlock, for which the ECU comes to us once. The configurator tells you if your ECU may be affected. The payment principle stays the same.
And for other brands?
For all brands except BMW, a different model applies because the process is different. There, we work on the ECU ourselves: either on site in Stödtlen on your preferred date or after you send the ECU in. You pay a one-time fixed price: no deposit, no second payment. That is consistent, because no upload on your side sits in between. The work happens entirely with us.
Motorcycle tuning is also paid in one step, online or, if you like, in cash at an on-site appointment.
What happens before the download
Before you download the finished file, you confirm two more things in the portal. First, the waiver of the right of withdrawal for digital content: once you have downloaded an individually created file, this cannot be undone. Second, you already confirmed the requirements when ordering: the technical condition of the car, the equipment for flashing and the legal framework. Part of that: changing the engine software voids the operating permit, and our calibrations are intended exclusively for motorsport. Details are in the motorsport notice.
Quick answers
Is the deposit really credited? Yes. It is part of the software price, not on top. The configurator and checkout show the split as "deposit today" and "rest after tuning".
Do I have to buy a flasher from you? No. If you already have a suitable tool and cable, simply select your own flasher tool when ordering. Phase 1 then consists only of the deposit.
Will I get two invoices? Yes: one for hardware and deposit, and one for the software calibration after completion, with the deposit already deducted.
Conclusion
The two-phase model follows the process: hardware right away, software when it is done. You pay a 5 € deposit and the hardware today, the rest only when your file is waiting in the customer portal. To see how the price splits for your car, select it in the configurator.
