Which motorcycles can be tuned?

You can order online for motorcycles with the Keihin ECU 812.41.031 (printed on the sticker on the ECU): KTM 250 EXC-F (2012–2013), 350 EXC-F, 450 EXC and 500 EXC (2012–2016), Freeride 350 (2012–2017), 450 SMR (2013–2014), 250 SX-F and 350 SX-F (2014), 450 SX-F (2014–2015), Husaberg FE 250 (2013) and FE 350/450/501 (2013–2014), Husqvarna FE 350/450/501 (2014–2016) and FC 250 (2014). What do pops & bangs, party mode and the power increase do?

Pops & bangs: crackling and burbling on the overrun – but only while you hold the throttle slightly open. So you can also ride completely normally; only at high revs it may still bang now and then. You choose how strong. Party mode (hard cut or flame limiter): at the rev limiter the spark cuts while fuel keeps flowing – that makes bangs and flames from the exhaust; the stock cut-off stays in place as a safety net. Power increase: reworked ignition and injection maps for more power and sharper response, matched to your bike’s original software.

Are pops & bangs and party mode harmful?

Both put unburnt fuel into the exhaust – that puts more strain on exhaust valves, header and silencer than the stock tune. You set how strong the pops & bangs are in the configurator yourself. All functions are intended for motorsport and are not permitted on public roads – see the motorsport notice.

How much does motorcycle tuning cost?

One option costs €150, several options (always on) €200. With multi-map you spread the options freely over up to 4 maps and switch with a map switch – €230. The map switch is optional: Stealth for €40 or Clean for €80.

How does the map switch work?

Accepted Answer

With our switches you reach all 4 maps directly: nothing pressed = map 1, switch 1 = map 2, switch 2 = map 3, both = map 4. Stealth (€40) is a 4-way rotary switch in a 3D-printed housing, hidden in the fairing wherever you like – not waterproof. Clean (€80) sits on the handlebar – aluminium, 2 buttons, waterproof to IP67. The switches are still in development and available from mid-October: you can pre-order now and we ship yours for retrofitting. KTM’s stock switch (part number 77239974200, fits KTM and Husqvarna models 2011–2017) has two positions on the handlebar: position 1 runs map 1, position 2 the map you pick on the base-setting rotary switch – located in the airbox or under the seat, depending on the model. The change is applied at idle or on restart. Switching maps from your smartphone is coming soon as well.

Can I switch party mode on and off?

Yes, with a map switch. Without a switch, party mode is simply always on (one option, €150). With multi-map (€230) you put it e.g. on map 2 and ride map 1 stock – you change over with the map switch. If you get KTM’s stock switch yourself, we can do it at the next appointment; for our own switches you need to wait until mid-October.

Question 7

Do I have to come by, or can I send in the ECU?

Both work: on site with us (Efimow Tuning, Birkenzeller Str. 23, 73495 Stödtlen) – you pick your preferred date right when ordering – or you send us the ECU. How to remove and pack it safely is in the shipping guide. By post it takes about 3–7 days – shipping both ways plus reprogramming. You send us the tracking number via the link in your order confirmation.

Can I buy just the tuning file?

Not for motorcycles: we match the file to the original software read from your ECU and program the ECU ourselves – on site or after you send it in.

Question 9

Do I have to come by for car tuning?

Accepted Answer

Not for BMW – that works remotely: you order online, read out your ECU with a flasher tool (available from us) and upload the file in your customer portal. We create your tuning file – usually within 48 hours – and you flash it yourself. The same goes for the Toyota Supra A90 with BMW engine. All other car brands we tune on site in Stödtlen – get in touch for an appointment.

Question 10

What do I need to flash my ECU myself?

You need a compatible OBD cable (K+DCAN or E-Net, depending on the vehicle series) and a Windows laptop. We provide the necessary software and detailed instructions. Optionally, you can also order the required cable from us.

Question 11

How long does it take to receive my tuning file?

Accepted Answer

After you have uploaded your original file to your customer portal, the processing time is usually up to 48 hours. For very new or complex ECUs, it may take a little longer in individual cases.

Question 12

When do I pay what?

Accepted Answer

Today you only pay for the hardware (flasher + cable, if ordered) plus a small 5 € deposit. The software tune is paid only after your tuning file is ready — the deposit is credited toward the final price. So you know what you'll pay upfront and take no risk.

Question 13

Do I need to use fuel with a higher octane rating?

Accepted Answer

For optimal and safe performance, especially with Stage 2 or higher power levels, we strongly recommend using fuel with at least 98 octane (Super Plus). For some setups, this is mandatory.

Is chiptuning harmful to my engine?

Accepted Answer

No, when performed professionally and with adherence to service intervals, our chiptuning is not harmful. We operate within the manufacturer's tolerances and place the highest value on engine longevity.

Question 15

Which payment methods can I use?

Accepted Answer

Online you pay securely via Stripe – by card and with the other methods shown in the payment form. For motorcycle tuning you can also pay cash: at the appointment on site or – when you send in the ECU – the cash in a sealed envelope in the parcel (insured shipping recommended).

Question 16

Do I need a customer account?

Accepted Answer

Not for motorcycle tuning – you can order as a guest. For car tuning you need an account, because that is where you upload your original file and download the tuning file.

Question 17

Does my manufacturer's warranty expire?

Accepted Answer

Yes, as a rule, a software modification leads to the expiration of the manufacturer's warranty for the engine and drivetrain. You should be aware of this before tuning.

What happens if I'm not satisfied with the tuning?

Accepted Answer

Your satisfaction is important to us. If problems arise, please contact us. We offer free revisions. In exceptional cases and after appropriate verification, a refund may also be possible. Please refer to our GTC and cancellation policy.
